Pastoral Care

Illawarra Christian School is committed to the provision of a safe, secure and well-managed learning environment where every student is known and cared for.
Looking after our students

A community that cares

Students are provided with the opportunity to develop their interests, skills and knowledge in a community where their social and emotional wellbeing is nurtured.

Programs focusing on resilience, self-esteem, teamwork, leadership, organisation and positive peer interactions are integrated into the Pastoral Care curriculum to enable students to mature in their Christian character.

Illawarra Christian School seeks to provide for the social, emotional, academic and spiritual needs of each individual child. Staff have a genuine desire to see each student come to a personal faith in God and to be equipped for a life of service to him. Staff members regularly pray with and for their students and consider it a privilege to walk with them on their life journey.

Nurture in the classroom

At the commencement of each day, Prep-6 students share in a devotional time where they are encouraged to apply Christian understanding and values to everyday situations. The life situations that occur each day provide teachers with ongoing opportunities to nurture and disciple their students so that they might grow into independent, productive community members.

Pastoral care that grows with our students

In the secondary school, Pastoral Care teachers facilitate devotions at the beginning of each day. Students listen to talks, pray, engage in Bible studies and interact in discussion groups. Each small group has a Pastoral Care teacher who is committed to offering spiritual guidance and practical care to every student. This may involve educational, social or personal areas of need. These small groups build trust and strengthen relationships that facilitate the growth of our students.

Pastoral Care coordinators have oversight of secondary year groups. They communicate with staff and parents as needs arise. They take primary responsibility for ensuring that students are happy and thriving; they ensure that relationships between students are positive and attend to issues that arise with individual students.
